Welcome to Huber Heights

Dear Friends of Huber Heights:

On behalf of our nearly 40,000 citizens, welcome to Huber Heights. Established as a city in 1981, Huber Heights has grown in the past two decades from a suburban bedroom community into a full-service city. And many more changes are underway. Benchrock, an up-scale $328 million development which will include an 18-hole golf course and 2,000 home sites, is currently under development. A new, state-of-the-art YMCA and medical office facility will be open for business in 2005. And plans are currently being developed to create a “Town Center,” a mixed-use downtown that will offer residential, recreational, cultural, and retail amenities.

The City of Huber Heights prides itself in providing top-quality safety services to its citizens. Our Division of Fire is one of the highest-rated firefighting forces in Ohio, with a Class 2 rating from the Insurance Services Offices of America (ISO). The division focused on homeland security in 2003 by completing a draft of an Emergency Operations Plan to govern emergency response in a disaster and conducting Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, which provided participating residents with disaster preparation instruction.

Likewise, our Police Division continues to find creative and effective ways to protect and serve the community. The division has equipped its patrol vehicles with state-of-the-art computers which allow officers to enter and retrieve critical information from their cruisers. They are working towards obtaining accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Their recently remodeled Communications Center provides dispatchers and records clerks with a comfortable, technologically-advanced, and effective work environment.

Our voters passed a five-year street levy renewal in 2003. This will insure that our highly effective and successful street paving and maintenance programs will continue.

Our Finance Department received the State of Ohio Auditor’s Award for the tenth consecutive year for excellence in financial reporting. They partnered with the Fire Division to contract with a new EMS billing firm which has resulted in a 30% savings in fees and a 40% increase in collected revenues.
