Chamber Hires New Director

Mark Bruns - Huber Heights ChamberHuber Heights Chamber hires long-time Huber Police Officer and Resident, Mark Bruns.

The Huber Heights Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the hiring of Mark Bruns as Executive Director for the Chamber.  “We feel Mark is the best possible candidate to lead our Chamber going forward as we work to improve our offerings and support of the businesses in our community,” said Josh Sullenberger, Board President.  As you will see from Mark’s biography, he is fully committed to our community.

Mark Bruns was born in Dayton, Ohio on December 11, 1955.  His mother and father, Donald and Helen Bruns (both deceased) built their home in Huber Heights in 1956.  Mark attended Wayne Township — Huber Heights schools K-12, graduating from Wayne High School in 1974.  He attended Sinclair Community College, earning an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement, followed by Criminal Justice studies at the University of  Dayton.

Mark began his law enforcement career as an auxiliary police officer for the Wayne Township Police Department in 1977.  He became a full-time officer for the new city of Huber Heights in 1979.  He served as a road patrol officer for nine years, seven of those years as a K-9 officer where he served with his canine partner Satan, a black German Shepherd.

Following his time on patrol duty, he became a detective in 1988 for 16 years.  He worked in the violent crimes division and specialized in sex crimes investigations and child abuse.  In 2004, he was named Public Affairs Officer for the Department, the position he will hold until he retires with thirty-three-and-a-half years of service in October. Mark has been very involved with the community, starting with the Police Explorer Post he helped create in 1979.  He took the program over in 1981 and continues to command it.  Mark is a member of many civic organizations, including the Optimist Club of Huber Heights, Wayne Township Huber Heights Historical Society and Huber Heights Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association.  He is a Master Mason with Lodge #777 F&M of Huber Heights.  Mark was a former President of the Huber Heights Athletic Foundation and member for six years.  He has volunteered in the community for over thirty years.

Mark and his wife Lori have purchased an 1815 house and farm on Bellefontaine Road, where they will spend the first part of his retirement renovating the house into a banquet facility, then operating it as one of Huber’s new and prospering businesses.  He will keep involved with family, including sons Chad and Matthew and daughters Olivia and Emma.

Mark will join the chamber in his new position in late October.
